Bail Bonds in Yolo County and Surrounding Areas
In America’s court of law, everyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That is why the bail system is in place — so those who are arrested don’t have to spend the time before their trial in jail. They can assure the court that they’ll be present for their trial and then continue going to work, taking care of their children and generally living daily life. If you or a loved one was recently arrested, you might be curious about what a bail bond is and how to post bail to get yourself or your loved one out of jail.
What Is Bail?
Bail is money guaranteed to the court if the defendant is released from jail but does not show up to their trial. When an individual is arrested, he or she can post bail, get out of jail and, as long as they show up to all of their trial dates, get that bail money back from the court.
What Is a Bail Bond?
Bail is often too much money upfront for most people to afford. That’s where a bail bond comes in. A bond company will usually only charge 10 to 15 percent of the total bail amount. You pay that 10 to 15 percent, and the bail bond company posts the rest of the bail. As long as you show up for every trial date, you’ll be set. You won’t get that fee back, even if you are acquitted, but you’ll be able to spend the time leading up to your trial out of jail. However, if you fail to appear at trial, a warrant will likely be issued for your arrest, you will lose the money you posted for bail, and the bond company can send a bounty hunter to find you and return you to custody.
